Water current flowing past a cylindrical object, such as riser pipes, creates a phenomenon called vortex-induced vibration. This vibration can cause significant fatigue to the drill riser pipe and ultimately damage that can cause it to fail.
We manufactured custom polyurethane 9" ViV strakes to prevent this from happening. The polyurethane anti-ViV strakes are fitted over part of the tubular pipe span from the rig platform to the seabed to reduce the amount of vibration and ensure there is no fatigue or damage along the pipeline.
